Thailand has again solidified its position as a top foodie destination with the 8th edition of the Michelin Guide Thailand. The revelation ceremony took place at the Chadra Ballroom at the Siam Kempinski Bangkok hotel.
This milestone not only highlights Thailand’s rich culinary diversity but also strengthens its food tourism sector. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)-Michelin collaboration underscores Thailand’s efforts to promote gastronomy as a key pillar of tourism.
Food tourism in Thailand is experiencing rapid growth. With travelers increasingly seeking authentic culinary experiences, the country is tapping into its rich culinary heritage.
According to the TAT, food-related tourism is expected to generate significant revenue. More importantly, they project Thailand’s food trade to exceed $20 billion in 2025. This surge in culinary tourism encourages travelers to explore Thailand’s diverse food scene, from street vendors to Michelin-starred restaurants.
Michelin Guide launches new destinations
The 8th edition of the Michelin Guide marks a significant expansion of the guide’s reach within Thailand. For the first time, the guide is placing greater emphasis on emerging culinary destinations outside of the major cities. New additions to this year’s guide include restaurants in less-known provinces.
For instance, the 8th edition of the Michelin Guide Thailand expands into Chonburi, a coastal province in Thailand. The area makes its debut in the Guide, with 20 entries, including 5 Bib Gourmand and 15 Michelin Select establishments.
Moreover, the 2025 Michelin Guide features the first-ever Thai restaurant to earn three Michelin stars. This refers to Bangkok’s Sorn restaurant, which previously had two stars. The Guide also expands to feature less known provinces such as Phang-Nga, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Isaan.
Speaking at the launch event, Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullenec said, “This milestone underscores the richness and diversity of Thai cuisine while highlighting the innovation and passion of Thailand’s chefs. The Michelin Guide continues to celebrate the vibrant culinary scene in Thailand, which remains a key destination for food lovers from around the world.”
Thailand on the global food map
This strategic move aims to encourage both domestic and international travelers to explore new gastronomic frontiers, driving tourism beyond the traditional hotspots.
As the Michelin Guide continues to showcase Thailand’s dynamic culinary scene, it enhances the country’s global reputation as a gastronomic hub. This year’s edition introduces several new restaurants and celebrates existing ones, reinforcing Thailand’s standing on the world stage.
With its unique blend of flavors, Thailand offers a wide variety of dishes that cater to all tastes, from spicy street food to high-end dining experiences. The Guide’s recognition ensures that these culinary treasures continue to attract tourists seeking authentic flavors and unforgettable dining experiences.
The Michelin Guide also plays a crucial role in driving economic growth, particularly for local businesses. Looking ahead, the 8th edition of the Michelin Guide Thailand is expected to continue shaping the country’s food tourism industry.
